O K, this is the deal: For some strange reason, for the last 6 years, the blood from my period has started to irritate me down there when I wear a pad. So when that started, I learned to use tampons. All was well. But lately, I've noticed that the string from the tampon has began to irritate me down there also. I don't break out or anything, it's just a little irritated while I'm menstrating. Just wanted to know if this is normal...because to me it seems weird.

Also, I was on the Depo shot for a while and I just started having a regular period (YAY) as of January of this year. So any help would be great. Thanks in advance and please no silly answers.

I bet you have an allergy to one of the components of the pads or pons. I trust you are changing them regularly, so that shouldn't be an issue. My suggestion would be to go to a natural foods store (a larger one) that may carry those things made with hypo allergenic or natural fibers. There is also some thing that exists....I don't know what it is called, but it is a cup that you wear inside, and it catches the blood. Like a cervical cap, but for periods. Good luck.

make sure your changing your tampon every few hours, I wouldnt go over 4 hours with it if it irrates you. Sometiems if you sweat from being on your period which im sure all women do, it gets irritated down there with the string. I would try a few different brands and find one that works the best, and also change it as much as possible if you sweat.

Try different brands. I have noticed that some don't have as thick of a string and may be more comfortable.
