*Eliminate parenthesis - use the Distribution Method. Distribute the negative sign with the negative sign in parenthesis.
7/9 + 13/18
7/9 = x/1 + 13/18= x/1
First: find the least common denominator which is, 18.
7/9 = x/18 + 13/18= x/18
Sec: multiply the denominators & corresponding numerators with the missing terms to get 18.
(7/9)(2) = x/18 + (13/18)(1) = x/18
(7/9)(2) = 14/18 + (13/18)(1) = 13/18
Third: combine the fractions with the same denominator.
14/18 + 13/18
27/18
Simplify the fraction into lowest terms.
27/18 = 3/2

The lowest common denominator is 18, since 2*9=18. So multiply numerator and denominator of 7/9 to yeild (7/9)(2/2)=14/18 and rewrite the problem (14/18)-(-13/18). Since subtracting a negative quantity is the same as adding that same positive quantity (i.e., since -1(-1)=1), the answer is
(14/18)+(13/18)=27/18=1.5.

You're actually subtracting a negative number; so you are really adding.
First, get a common denominator (which is 18 in this case) by multiplying the first figure by 2/2:
14/18 + 13/18 = 27/18
Then simplify by dividing the numerator and denominator by 9:
3/2 or 1 1/2

First you divid 7 by 9. Then you add to it 13 divided by 18.
General rules... first you perform the mutliplications and divisions then you perform the additions and the subtractions.
Subtracting a negative is just adding.
