I am composing a business letter.
I need a correct word to describe "the floating of toxins into the air."
I want to use INERT, but that word is not as precise as I need.
I am trying to remember the word that both my High school Physics Teacher and my Biology Teacher used 30 years ago, but that was 30 years ago as I cannot even remember what I did THIS MORNING!
Thanks for all HELPFUL replies.

Could it be defilement, pollution or contamination that you are looking for?

Are these toxins liquid? If so, they could be considered aerosols. Inert definitely isn't the word you're looking for - it means inactive, which doesn't apply to a toxic substance unless it's been neutralized.
