Depends on the police officers attitude.
Generally when the traffic is stationary its filtering.
When the traffic is moving its undertaking.

In UK it is illegal to pass on the inside.
However, if you're in congested traffic and your lane is moving faster than the lanes on your right, you may pass those vehicles to keep the traffic flowing.
When in filter lanes on a motorway you are intending to take a different route, so as long as you don't cut in front of the vehicles you have passed there is no problem.
It is a fine line because some filter lanes on motorways can be over a mile long and traffic can play against you. But as with anything like that the police should only pull you over if you show a blatant disregard or cut someone up.
Hope this helps

UK code stated when in slow moving traffic it is in order to pass on the inside of other vehicles. So now where does the slow moving traffic and passing on the inside become a driving violation. If you do get the chance to ask "the boys in blue" I hope that they will be able to give you a really good answer and not just a ticket
Good luck and ride safe(even if that does mean not filtering)

Filtering on a motorcycle between two lanes of traffic is perfectly legal in the U.K. However, if you are involved in an accident, most insurance companies (and the police) will automatically consider it a 50/50 case.
Filtering only becomes undertaking if there are no vehicles using the lane on your left (or if there is no lane to your left...).

if you are not in a filter lane (left turn only etc) and are passing cars on your right then you are undertaking. But if you are doing this in standing traffic i.e. at traffic lights in a traffic jam etc then the vast majority of coppers will turn a blind eye as long as you are not going too fast or flashing the pass button to get people out of the way.

If the lane your in is a filter lane then you are filtering filtering lanes a denoted by heavy dotted line close together.
If the lane you are 'undertaking is stopped then travelling slowly past is filtering.
If the vehicle is braking and you don't brake as much then it is an arguable situation. but only argue in court not the officer.

according to the highway code section 242 says:
"242: Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right. Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake."
But whatever you do, do it with CARE, it is a good idea to read the highway code from time to time to keep up with changes or to jog your memory.
Another thing you could think of is joining the Institute of Advanced Motorists (I.A.M.) it would open your eyes to safe riding.
Keep safe

totally depends on where you are located.
IN California, the law is vague. :Lane Sharing is not illegal, it is unsafe: which means it is officers discretion based on how you are riding.
In Chennai, the law is even more vague, and usually depends on the bribe.
In Mexico, the first person to the light wins.
one of my best mental guidelines is to ask myself, :is this manuver going to upset a cop?: if so, I do not do it.

.Normally to pass on the inside legally there has to be a almost continual white line, one that has smaller spaces and longer white bits.
