Go to Start > Run. Type 'msconfig' in the small box. In the window, open the Startup tab and remove the tick next to MSN Messenger.

Goto menu Tools/Options, select "General" in the left pane, then on the right you will see:

"Automatically run messenger when I log on to Windows"

Uncheck the box and you are done.

open windows live messenger (to the full screen, not just the regular size) and click options, go down to general (I think) and uncheck the box that says open live messenger on startup.

Good Luck!
