Can one do that with no intention at all to buy, but just to admire the beautiful homes? And if so, what does one say to the realtor or whomever is showing the house?

I'm a Realtor and enjoy when people stop by just for fun. It can be slow at times and it's nice to meet new people. Just do us a favor and don't lie and act like you interested in buying. If the person showing the home isn't friendly about it, you now know they aren't an agent you want to work with in the future!

If the realtor did not want people viewing the home, they should not have an "Open House." To me, open house is just that. Open. If the realtor is smart, he or she will treat you with respect, show you around and, hopefully, establish a relationship that may benefit both of you at some time in the future.

Many people selling very expensive homes do not want an open house for just this reason. That is understandable.

An Open house is not to sell the house, it is to sell the realtor. The realtor is looking for prospective clients at least as much as trying to sell the house. If you are genuinely interested in purchasing a property, tell them that you think this house is beautiful, but your realistic price range is lower.

As one who is on the way to becoming a realtor...go ahead and do it. It's fun and I dont think the agent would have a problem for one reason.....he or she will be able to hand out business cards. Go ahead and have fun..maybe some day you'll really be able to buy a house like that

Well there is no way for them to know so obviously they cant stop you. There is no verifcation done on people entering the house. And in fact even if you told them you cant afford the house they wouldnt make you leave. They just wouldnt give you any of their time.

But either way, you dont even have to talk to the realtor if you dont want to. Just pretend like you belong there. Ask about property taxes, sqaure feet, # number of bathrooms, lot size, ect ect

I have done it before. I just pretend like I am one of the rich people, I never tell the realtor I have no intention of buying, since I do not want to be treated poorly. Just dress up nice and have fun.

This one is easy.

" NO "

If you decide to do it anyway at least apologize to the agent holding the open house for being there under false pretenses.

I do not see anything wrong with it. As a matter of fact, I have wanted to do that as well as test drive a very expensive car. I've just been too lazy to do it. Ask how many square feet, etc. Make up stuff. Let us know how it goes!

Frankly, as a businessman, I would prefer you didn't. One, you'll be wasting their valuable time. Second, you'll be distracting them from doing real business, and might even endanger a sale.
