In November, 2003 we took our two children who both eight and four years old at the time, to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. We planned many of our events way ahead of time, making dinner reservations, and reservations for shows, etc, long in advance. While the bulk of our trip was fun and eventful, we as parents thought the trip was hurried and we felt pressure to do "fun" things. We decided that the very last day of our trip before we flew home the next day would be a free day. We had no itinerary, no plans, and we would do whatever the kids wanted to do.

We went to all of the parks and rode the rides we missed earlier in the week, hung out at the hotel pool for a while, ate a long lunch at a nice restaurant in the park, and then we had dinner at the Liberty Tree Tavern. While we were waiting for our seat, our 8 year old daughter began to cry as it dawned on her that were leaving the next day and we weren't going to be able to come back for a few years. One of the waiters saw her weeping and said that "There is no crying in the Magic Kingdom." He led us to our table and pulled "Magic Dust" from his pocket (tiny confetti in the shape of Mickey heads) and sprinkled it on the table. All of the characters came to our table and cheered up our children. They spent way more time with us than they normally would have. I had so many shots of the kid's with Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Chip and Dale, Pluto, and Miko, that my video camera’s battery ran out. On the side, the waiter gave me two birthday cards, pre-signed by all of the character's present in the restaurant that night, that my wife and me were to mail to them on their birthdays as a reminder of their "Magical night" at the Liberty Tree Tavern in the Magic Kingdom.

We left the tavern escorted by Miko from Pocahontas, and arrived in front of Cinderella's Castle for the fireworks display. It was right around dusk, and we sat down with hundreds of others in front of the castle waiting for the show. There was music playing and children were running all around. Our kids were in front of us laughing and dancing to the music as the park lights came on and the sun went down. I looked at my wife and we smiled as we held hands and watched them laugh and wiggle their bodies to the tunes blaring form the hidden speakers all around. I realized that I had no battery left in my camera, but we both decided that this time it wasn't important. We watched the kids dance until the fireworks display began. We had such a good time that day, and especially that night that I will never forget how happy we all were. I only hope that on the day I die, I can conjure up the image on my children dancing, singing, and giggling in the twilight in front of Cinderella’s Castle and remember what a "magical" time we all had.
