no we do not treat children the way persons did 80 years ago. a couple of reasons for that both happening in the 1960's. first there is a child rearing book by Dr. Spock which taught that children should be raised as small adults. which in the 1990's Dr. Spoke said if you raise your kids using my methods you bring up brats.

the second is the USA education system was changed to teach from a morally neutral stand point. that the idea that there is no wrong. well one of the developers of this thought also saw he mistake and said they forgot one thing in this world . that is evil.
and the generation that is now becoming of age from these doctrines are having kids .

You mean "stricter". The answer is no, the laid back attitude, the emergence of "children rights", the excessive child care books and a general attitude of "letting go" have produced spoiled brats everywhere. And not 80 years ago, 50 years ago parents were more strict than now and family values existed.

No, and that is exactly one of the major problems with society today.

80 years ago, if the youth got out of line, they would get their butt kicked and not just by their parents.

Now people scream abuse if you have a kid stand in the corner for an hour when they have gotten out of line.

This does nothing but reinforce the belief in youth that there are no consequences for their actions.

Spare the rod and spoil the child.
