Thanks to all who tried to assist me in my quest- I now have the actual ship's name, so if anyone has any information or resources to look for more details it would be just awesome. The ship was the SS Louis A. Sengteller and it was some where in the Pacific- Austrailia areaI believe.

she was a Liberty ship ( a mass produced cargo carrier, manned by Merchant Marines as opposed to Navy or Coast Guard ) and if you type "SS Louis A. Sengteller" into Yahoo search you get a bunch of hits.......happy researching!

As an Historian, focusing primarily on WWII, I have several books that provide names of navel vessels (service and military), unfortunately, I cannot locate the name of your father's ship. If you could possibly find out what type of ship it was, where it was stationed, etc. I might be able to search further. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but it isn't in my files.

If all else fails, contact the U.S. Navy directly. I did that to find my grandfather's Aircraft Carrier (who served in the South Pacific) before Internet was invented.... The U.S. Navy was very helpful locating his ship and provided information regarding it's history.

You have me interested in it now.

Other lists:

Maybe the name is wrong .CHeck out the names under S there are several that sound like it , but are not close on spelling, such as seadevil or silverstein.
