If I drive 10 hours East I will still be in Texas. However, in Western Europe if you drive 10 hours it is likely that you willl pass 3 countries...with 3 different languages, with 3 different fascinating cultures and histories. For us to travel it is extremely expensive and time-consuming, but for many Europeans it is a trainride and a daytrip.

Don't get me wrong..I love my country and some of my family members have died to ensure my freedom here..I just feel isolated..like I'm missing out. Does anyone else?

Oh, yes. I think a trip like that would be wonderful. But wishing I could travel in the United States has also been a dream that I have been unable to fulfill because of the inability to afford to do so.

As for the town I live in, here in Florida, we have at least two languages spoken at all times. I went to the grocery store some time back, and thought I had moved to a new country, because all I could see on the grocery items, was Spanish, and not English. The English writing seemed to be smaller, even though it probably wasn't.

From a great deal of personal experience, I can tell you that "Isolation is the worst possible counselor." As for traveling, the grass is definitely NOT always greener on the other side. (There's nothing like personal experience to teach ourselves that.)

Love yourself. I pray the hole in your heart... that empty place... is filled with a resting assurance that God loves you. You can move or travel all over the world, but where you go, there you will be also. Your computer is one way to link yourself to the world. Prayer is a great way to link to God.

May the Lord help you to find your way out of the desert. But be careful what you ask Him for. Make sure it's in accordance with His will.

Yes, and my favorite would be Holland. I lived there for two years and they were my happiest years I can remember. I worked in Amsterdam and lived in Bussum, a small city south of Amsterdam. I never used a car once to go to work in the two years I worked there because Holland (Netherlands) like most of Europe, has one of the best public transport network. They have very modern comfortable and reliable trains and buses not to forget the fascinating trams that criss cross the city roads. The roads are also superb when you choose to take a drive in the country side. Amsterdam in itself is fun through out the year. Spring and summer is a fiesta in the whole of Amsterdam; Autum (fall) is time to pep up for the fun in winter because the canals networking the city become a ski festival. Wow. How I miss the people. They are warm, healthy and friendly. And by the way, families are very secure and intact. There are very few single parents and divorded families. In fact the only serious friends I cheris up to now are Dutch and most of them I met at train stations.

This is going to sound extremely insulting - it is not intended to.

The problem with Europe? It is full of Europeans.

You can see so many rich, varying cultures right here in the US (Texas is great, Boston has wonderful people, Philadelphia for history, New York best city in the world, Miami you chance getting shot, etc)

I used to always want that and then my sister and I went on kind of a European road trip to Amsterdam, Italy and Switzerland and of course we loved it and it was fun but there's truly no place like home. You just don't live the same way.

I love Europe. I love America but I think that Europe is definetly more worldly. We are missing out on so much if we stay on this landmass forever. There is a whole other world out there and believe me it is probably more interesting that America. So yeah we're missing out

What if you lived in Germany or Italy and your father was a Nazi or Facist? Would you still be happy to live in a place with such an interesting history and culture?
