Ok we all read that Germans invented and tested steroids. They were used in Hitler's olympics competitions. So, isnt it correct to assume athletes have been using the cream every since world war II?

Anabolic steroids were first discoverd in the early 30s, and it would be a reasonable assumption to say that athletes (and non-athletes) have been using ever since. The question is, who used them, and how widespread was their use. For one thing, you need to remember that the discovery does not necessarily coincide with availability. It also seems to be a general consensus that while there were surely some athletes in major sports who were doping early on, it seems to have not become a widespread issue until at least the 60s (for decades they were not believed to have an advantageous effect), and really started becoming an issue in baseball in the late 70s. This does not condone anyone for using now just because other athletes were using then, nor vice versa.

The "problem" seems to revolve around how readily available doping agents were/are. I think it is reasonable to assume that if fewer athletes are using it, the top athletes might not see a need for it. However, as more and more players start abusing, it becomes increasingly enticing for top athletes to start using as well, to continue to produce better results.

Oh, and you said the cream in your question. The cream was created along with the clear (THG) by Patrick Arnold in the late 90's, so it IS NOT correct to assume athletes have been using the cream ever since world war II.

Who Invented Steroids

Well, steroids like estrogen have been around forever, but the ones we currently read so much about - anabolic steroids - were indeed invented by the Germans back in the 1930s. However, nobody really believed in their value for decades, until the Eastern European countries realized that they really could help athletes.

"The cream" is a relatively modern creation, and it's not a steroid. It's actually a testoserone-based ointment that helps mask the use of steroids like "the clear," which is why the two are always used together. Both were created by a chemist named Patrick Arnold, the man who also gave us Andro.

As for who first used steroids in pro baseball, I think that's impossible to answer.

The cream was invented recently. Steroids can be tracked to bodybuilding. Body builders began using it in high numbers back in the early 60's (bodybuilders, and Olympic athletes are usually the first to experiment with such drugs for performance, and looks)
. Alot of other performance drugs got popular back in that time too... like speed.

Both corticosteroids and anabolic steroids have legitimate medical uses, and they were each developed for that purpose. They date back to the early '60's.
