I don't know what you mean by "external card" since all cards are made to fit internally. You should send this question to Yahoo Answers again and mention the web link where you saw this thing so we can all look at it to see what it is.

Your MacBook already has USB bult-in so why do you need an "external card"? But even with an internal card, "Video capture" is not a function of the USB card. Also, all USB drivers are built into the Mac operating system so you don't need to install any additional software to make the USB port work.

But just because you connect a video camera to the USB port doesn't mean you can import video from the camera through USB. Any video camera connected to the Mac USB port will just be like a storage drive. You can copy the MPEG-4 files to your hard drive and then import them into iMovie or whatever video editing application you want to use.

To import video from a camera directly into iMovie as the camera is playing the video, you must connect the camera by Firewire (IEEE-1394) port. Look carefully in your camera's guide to find where it has its Firewire port. If it is just a cheap "Web-cam", you will need some software other than iMovie to import the video or maybe you can copy the video to the hard drive as I mentioned above.
