All of the answers before mine are great. I also recommend those books, and taking classes.
I might add one of my favorite quotes from my acting professor.
"The steps to becoming a good actor, are the same as becoming a better person: Honest self-evaluation followed by action."
Or something like that. Basically to become a good actor you have to look at your weaknesses, and overcome them.
Build yourself.

I would suggest reading the following two books, because they are amazing and they've really helped me as an actor:
Audition by Michael Shurtleff (who has been a casting director all around the US for many years)
An Actor Prepares by Stanislavski (this one can be kind of hard to find, but trust me it is worth your time to get it and read it)
both of these books will help you to become a better actor.
Audition has the twelve actor guideposts that really helps you to truly become the character (which is what all good actors do) and it teaches you about auditions and the such. Amazing book.
I would introduce An Actor Prepares, but I would not do it justice. It's an amazing book, Stanislavski is perhaps the greatest genius that the theater world has ever seen.

Auditioning is for people who are already skilled at their craft. Take classes, get experience. Work. That's how to become a good actor. As for audition info, that varies depending on where you're from. Contact a local theatre company and inquire there.

Becoming a better actor is about practicing, taking classes, being able to get honest criticism and taking it into account (actually make changes when the director asks you to). It's about making your character real.
Taking classes depends on where you are located and if you're talking about theatre or tv & film. If you're in Los Angeles, NY or any area that has more opportunities then you will have many more choices. If you're in LA, go to workingactors.com, click on actors, then training. If not, check out local theatres. Many of them have classes and workshops. They also likely have websites where they post their audition info.
For tv & film auditions (etc), you can check out actorsaccess.com. For theatre, you can go to backstage.com or http://www.actorsequity.org/castingcall/... If you find the audition on the Equity site, you still may be able to go, as long as their not taking appointments from equity actor's only :-) On backstage.com you have to pay to get all of the info, but the initial search is free and you may be able to see enough info to find out the rest on your own without paying. Good luck!

I would take as many reputible acting classes as you can stand. Be sure to include classes on how to audition.
