My Compaq Persario 6120, keeps crashing! After about 10 minutes of use, it goes to a blue screen with "Hard drive error" on it. Anyway, My question is Where should I go for tech support? I have one friend who says to go to Circit city (where I bought it) and another friend says to talk to HP (who owns Compaq) Which should I contact?

Is the computer under warranty? if so then contact Compaq (HP), apparently your hard drive has errors.

If it is not under warranty, you should try to reformat the HD, careful doing this you will lose all the data. So you have to have a backup.

Compaq is now HP so you can find help here www.hp.com

If its still under warranty, I'd check with HP first. Their support is usually pretty good and if there is a faulty hardware issue, they will replace it. Not sure if Circuit City would do the same unless you bought their warranty? If its not under warranty, both places will charge you so you may want to find someone local to look at it.

Hi. The experts would be at HP, but they would be more expensive. It's not a big deal to replace a hard drive. You could buy an inexpensive external drive case that connects through a USB port to try and recover the data on your old drive.

unplug the computer, hold down the power button for 10secs with the power cable out and then open it up, touch the metal of the computer to ground yourself and check and make sure the wire to the harddrive is connected properly and that the jumper is in the right place

I am assuming that you have a backup of your data. :) If you are still covered by HP then go there. If not then Circuit City sounds good. Cheers
