I don't think that most people are against country music in fact the other day on the radio, someone had conducted a survey that asked people what they listened to on the radio the most, rock, rap, country or talk radio and the number one answer was country so I think it is alive and well in the U.S. People that like country music are secure enough about themselves that they don't have to go around putting other kinds of music down.

I am not against country music, but it isn't my favorite genre of music. I think it is just a little bit annoying to some people. I think one reason people may be against it, is because it feeds into the whole white prejudiced redneck stereotype (because it is associated with the south).. In the early 20th century, country music and gospel was just about the only thing that white prejudiced people listened to.. they didn't listen to rock and hip hop was not yet created.

Overall, it is just music.. I know a lot of people that don't like country, but there are a few cross-over artists they enjoy listening to, no matter how twangy (Carrie Underwood).

i think it stems from the late to mid 1970's when country/western music was all the rage

back then country/western music was basically about 3 things: Getting drunk and smacking your wife/gf around and raising tons of hell
The music was also listened to alot by working class poor who empathised with the music back then and it was seen as "music for the poor with no education who were the slackers of that era"

Country/Western Music has evolved past that stage in many leaps and bounds now and is more of a message of spirituality and family values of sticking by your family no matter what (a fact I applaud big time)

unfortunately the rest of the world does not see what those of us who like country music do these days and I wish I could say I see attitudes changing but I'd be lying in that aspect so let's not and say we did and not waste everyone's time saying it

Not all people are. Just like not all people are against rap, or heavy metal, or gospel, or whatever. Everyone has varied and individual tastes in music. I like several genres - as each has it's good and it's bad. I am a fan of Country Music.

Some people think the songs are too depressing and talk about the same thing. If they get depressed listening to a country song, then, in some little way, they can relate to whatever the song is talking about. I used to think that country music was depressing too, but I got to listening to it and found that I can TOTALLY relate to what was talked about in the song. As Trace Adkins wrote about, they were "Songs About Me."

LONG LIVE COUNTRY MUSIC!!!!!! :-D

I like blue grass, gospel, folk and old timey music (plus many other types of music). I am not a big fan of modern country. I love Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Lefty Fizzle etc.

Modern country is too honky tonk. If that makes sense. Modern country just seems to have lost its soul comparatively to old country.

I don't think people are "Against" country music. Everyone has their own personal tastes and preferences when it comes to music. Personally, I prefer music that has recognizable and poignant lyrics that I can connect with. In my opinion, there is beauty in the musicianship of all styles of music, so I tend to base my opinions more on lyric.

I'll tell you why because it's always the same thing......my truck broke down, my dog got hit by a car and my wife left me. LOL!! no really, there are some that are good but for the most part I tend to stay away from Country music.
