I haven't stayed in any of these hotels, or visited them, because i am Greek. So I can't speak of them with facts, all I can tell you is that they are not in very good neighbourhoods. Apollonion and Zinon are in Metaksourgeio, an area with abandoned houses, many immigrants, prostitutes etc. It's not really dangerous, but not too pleasant. Lately many good hotels have opened in this area, because they can afford to keep prices low there. As for Glaros, I think it is in Piraeus, near the port. The area is OK, but there is nothing to do there other than take the ferry to an island! Which you can do easily if you stay in Athens, it only takes half an hour by metro to the port!
Anyway, I could suggest a design hotel to you, really nice, in the nicest area of Athens, Kolonaki, near the historic centre, shopping area and museums, it is called www.periscope.gr
I bet it is more expensive than the ones you've seen, but it is the one i would have chosen if I were to come to Athens as a tourist. (I wouldn't go to the very expensive Hlton or Grande Breatagne either!!). Or check in the Syntagma and Plaka area!

I live in Athens, so I've never stayed at any of the hotels you mention. However, Hotel Zinon is part of the Best Western chain. I don't know many things to tell you about this specific hotel, but at my old job we used hotels from the Best Western chain for the company's clients and I've never heard any of them complain about something. So I suppose it would be a good option among the three, as it is also located in a very central place of Athens and it would be nice for you if you're travelling for tourism.
About hotel Glaros I cannot tell you anything apart from the fact that it's located at Pireus, which is an area on the south part of athens (the port is also located in that area) and that it could give you a hard time if you want to go sightseeing as you would have to get a bus to get to the center of athens and then get a bus to anywhere else (that is not always the case, depends on where u want to go, but I guess the center of athens has more tourist attractions)
About Apollonion Hotel, it's located at Omonia square which is right in the heart of Athens. You won't have a problem with public transport there, and it's a very good point to start exploring the city. From some photos I've seen, it seems decent for a budget hotel. However, Omonoia square is usually overcrowded and is not one of Athen's most attractive neighbourhoods.
Personally, I'd go for the hotel Zinon choise. It's located in a central place but not too central to be overcrowded. I hope you find this answer helpful, but in any case try to do some research of your own, cause I'm just giving you my personal opinion without actually having stayed in any of these hotels. Whatever you choose, have fun while at Athens!

I live in Athens and to be honest I didn't really like the hotels you've mentioned (I visited the sites and didn't like what I've seen).Check the Omonia Grand Hotel,Amazon hotel and other that are located in Sintagma and Plaka!
But if I had to choose one of those you've picked I'd prefer Glaros hotel because is at the port of Piraeus and you will have easy access to the subway and to the ferries to the islands.
Have fun in Greece....

Hi, If you want a budget hotel in a good area try the Austria hotel.Cheap as chips, views of the Acropolis and in the Plaka area.OK, it is in need of some tender loving care,a lick of paint and brought up to date but you get value for money. We stayed there in April, had maid service and clean linen/ towels daily. The roof terrace they advertise is lovely for the views but no other facilities open(bar etc)but so what!! Hope this helps, Enjoy, DL1

For this manner of specific social gathering a undeniable lodge is needed. the very superb that Athens has to furnish if the Grande Bretagne. you could no longer beat it for looks, provider, region (in Consitution sq.) and decadence.... look at their internet site - it is a alluring and romantic place to stay. Sunrises and sunsets over the remarkable perspectives of the Acropolis.... heavenly. (from the internet internet site) The Grande Bretagne represents the essence of hospitality in Greece for better than a hundred thirty years. because of the fact it reopening in 2003, the guarantees of defined excellence have even been surpassed....
