in may 2008 the "Real ID " card program rolls out, ....very expensive, hardly a blip on the radar as far as congress is concerned.. but a central data base, along with admitted existing spying programs, wire taps, Echelon, sneak and peak.. all sanctioned and outline clearly in the patriot acts 1&2 .. combine to make us more like the Soviet Union than the united states..

when they begin the random checkpoints for these cards how will you react?

it's not a formality Wonka.. google it, the Fed have outlined a very distinct track on this one that includes a program of heightened suspicion for anyone not having the card, this means if you get pulled over for a routine stop.. the officer can hold you for as long as he likes until you can be cleared with homeland security... and that's only one example, research it.

I knew it wouldn't be long before someone dusted off the old "if you have nothing to hide..." argument.

I have nothing to hide. That doesn't mean the government gets to take my freedoms away.

First of all, this wouldn't be a new trend in free nations. Can this be misused, yes. Will it, only if America is dumb enough to elect (or allow someone to steal the presidency again) someone like Bush. This is in fact, not very different from having a state ID or a Drivers Liscence. Its federal and its one step closer to holding the Federal government more accountable. Granted, the patriot act is a pice of tripe with no real rational explanation, but this is one provision that if executed with reality in mind, is harmless. If its executed with irrational paranoia...God help us all. Speaking of delusional paranoia...random checkpoints???? Dude, i suggest a heavy dose of tranqs. Granted, we are suffering a loss of rights because of a few demagauges (okay, quite a few) but we are not about to go into martial law.

This is just ridiculous. We are on are way to a police-state(if we are not already there). Things like this just cause wide-spread panic and we have the Red Scare all over again.

It's only a formality. All new drivers license include a digital picture, sent to ...

I'm not happy about it. It's a "sign of the times".
