I never heard of Frostwire, but Grisoft is known to be a safe place to download from. Tucows and Download.com are also well known safe download sites.

ThoroatofWinter's comments are quite comprehensive.

I use Spybot S&D and love it.
I also prefer McAfee and consider it worth the cost of the basis program and the annual renewal fee. I don't go for their costly subscription service.
I don't like the way Zone Alarm works.

You can also do online scanning and I'll include sites for that to help you, but you should still get and install:
anti-virus software
anti-spyware software
anti- trojan software
firewall

especially if you are on DSL. Then you should have both hardware AND software firewalls.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.

don't download one off of frostwire... download this one http://free.grisoft.com/
this is the best free virus scan out there, and it works really well. if you download one off of frostwire you may get even more viruses, and i just wouldn't risk it.

You don't need to download it from there...get AVG, it's free and works very well.
