We wnat wireless in the house but we have been told we need a dongle. HELP!

You can get a Wireless USB dongle. You will also need a wireless access point or wireless router so that the dongle can connect to something.

to run wireless on your PC you need a USB port to connect the wireless Dongle to. If you dont have a usb port on your PC then depending on how old your PC is you may or may not be able to fit a USB adaptor to it. Your operating system may also be a problem. Check you have an available slot to fit an adaptor to then check that the adaptor you buy has a driver for your operating system. USB on 98 is not allways straight forward but is possible

you dont have to use a dongle,
you can use a wireless pci card instead.

Dongles are a bit naff anyway because they are not as good at picking up a signal when there sticking out of a usb slot.
A wireless pci card usually has an airal on a wire so you get a better signal.
