DVD-ROM would be read-only.

You can get a "combo drive" which is DVD-ROM and CD-burner.

Or you can get a DVD burner which will also read and burn CDs.

There are DVD drives, DVD combo drives, which are DVD drives and CD writers in one, and there are DVD writers. DVD rom is read only, this drive will read both DVD's and CD's but won't write to either

Most DVD rom are read only. Look for a drive that has writeable capabilities (ie. DVD RW+/-) Make sure it has dual layer features so you will be able to write to higher capacity recordable DVDs.
