You get the poke radar and can travel about on the new island area and encounter trainers with new Pokemon and you can migrate your pokemon from your GBA games.

you unlock spring path and turnback cave, you also unlock the pal park which is used to import pokemon from the gba titles and you unlock survivel area and fight area, and stark mountain with has extremely tough pokemon even the wild pokemon are close to Lv. 60 and you unlock and add on of victory road which was block by a guy wearing bue
