The water remains 2 days later. House is on a slab. How can I determine where the water is coming from? SHould i just get a professional plumber immediately?

Depends on where you live. Could be that your water table is high. Gulf coastal areas can have a very high water table. You may have to line your holes with a plastic liner. Check with your local garden store.... They will probably know.
Of course, if you've broken a water pipe you should see your water meter moving even when you don't have any water running in your house - You may even be able to hear it. You probably would've known if you had broken a water main (the water companies pipe to your meter). Those pipes are pretty sturdy and about 16 inches below ground. If you broke a sprinker line - usually white PVC you could probably get a handyman/person fix it.
Either way you may want to turn off your water at the street - Call the water company to find out how. Notice if the water level goes down or stays the same.

Absolutely get a professional! My parents went through 2 slab leaks this year and they can be super costly if you let it go (they had to re-route pipes through 2 rooms and jack hammer the floor in another). It is better to be safe than sorry. And by the way, if you can avoid going through your insurance, do. Once you claim a water damage leak like that they will likely drop you or charge some outrageous amount for the rest of the time you own that home.

It could be just a high water table in your area. If your water meter is outside the house (meter pit), make sure no water is being run in the house and check the leak detector dial (small triangle shape) on the meter to see if there is flow.
