well, I do know for a FACT that there is someone that answers the emergency phone in the elevators. It goes directly to a main switchboard/ answering service. I lived in an apartment building on the 10th floor and the elevator in there used to PMS all the time. I think that elevator phone got used more times that the lobbies pay phone lol

I got stuck on a freight elevator once on a Sunday and used the emergency phone it went to an answering machine.... Imagine my surprise at that. My husband finally got it going and got me out.

Now I do...! I try never to get into an elevator. I don't do heights...I especially hate the ones on the OUTSIDE of buildings! Yuck. One-two stories, like at a medical building., I'd rather walk. If I have to get into an elevator, I mostly hold my breath til I can get back out...,

I was in a elevator when I was little and I used the phone, yes they did answer.

Not really. . .I know for a fact that no one answers the one in the elevator at my former work place. Thank goodness for cell phones.

I'm not sure about the emergency phone but I always seem to accidently push the call button and someone answers it much to my chagrin.
