Hey Thin Kaboudit,
Scientists as well as philosophers have always been trying to figure it out.
Why spoil the fun by being an ***?

Science is trying to answer that, but it lacks the tools and the information. Science can conjecture the state of the universe at a 'big bang' time, and then calculate whether that initial system could develop in a way that would result in the universe as we know it. But science is at a complete loss to try to go farther back in time. Where did all the mass and energy come from?

String and membrane theories are dreaming up scenarios of intersecting 11-dimensional membranes to see if that could account for our universe. Even if they succeed, where did the membranes come from? It's extremely difficult to answer.

Scientists have never even tried to address that question, silly! That's a philosophical question with no way of ever generating an answer based on facts, observations, measurement, and the other tools science is based on!

Were you home-schooled? I think state-funded schools are required to teach the difference between these two things...

PS There are many, many, many such questions that science is "unable to answer" because they do not lie within the purview of the scientific method. Think about it...

I'll answer that by using the anthropic principle.

If there was nothing, we wouldn't be here, and that question wouldn't be asked. So there is something because it is the most beneficial option to sustaining life.

Simple. If there were nothing, you wouldn't be here to ask why you weren't here.

Other than that, look up Brane theory and pair production.

Are you saying that scientists have answered all but this question? Scince has theorized and "proven" many things. There is in fact, something, because it is an observable fact.

Because Nothing which really is Something would not exsist. If it Nothing you still need to see if Something is there.

Science doesn't care about WHY. Science only cares about HOW.
