There isn't a plain and simple answer to your question. It really depends on where you go to school and what their specific requirements are for the majors and the minor. It also depends a great deal on scheduling. Unlike a double major in the humanities, a double science major has to deal with twice the labs. Throw in a minor, and you can have serious logistical problems. You might have to take some courses during the summer session(s) to complete the minor, particularly if your school has extensive non-major course requirements (history, composition, economics, whatever).

I majored in chemistry and minored in biology when I was in school, and the biggest help to me was pre-university preparation. I took care of my introductory chemistry, physics, calculus, history, and composition requirements while I was still in secondary school, which allowed me to take the more advanced courses on a reasonable timetable. So, in sum, I would recommend you take as many college level courses as you can before you start (if that's still a possibility), and/or take summer courses wherever possible. Your upper level chem and bio courses will be less flexible in terms of scheduling because there's usually fewer sections taught, so any general requirements you can get out of the way during the summer will help you considerably.

The biggest problem you are going to encounter with a double major in Bio and Chem is lab time. Many schools also require concurrent lab and lecture components, which leaves you with literally not enough hours in the day.

Why not consider a major like biotechnology or biochemistry? This major encompasses many of the same classes you would take as a double major, with many of the same grad school or career outlooks.

Warning crazy college kid on the loose! Like the Dr. said Lots and I mean lots of lab reports! I'm only a chemistry major and it's enough! I had at least 1 lab report to write EVERY week plus pre lab plus lab notebook. A lab report, quantum chemistry homework and mid terms all in the same week. Next year I'll have analytic chemistry 2 lab and organic chemistry lab. I don't expect to have time to breathe! One lab report takes some research plus mechanisms with chemdraw plus analysis of results. Good luck! You'll need it!
