The pipe that drains water from my backyard to the front gutter is clogged with roots. I'm afraid to use granulated products that are made to clear roots from sewer lines by flushing them down the toilet.

Yes you need a power rooter with a cutter head attached. Be advised if you rent one be very careful there have been many arms broken by these machines. Your best bet is to call a plumber.

Most products sold for root removal do not work. Rent a power snake with a cutting head or call a pro. If you rent a machine, make sure you get enough links of cable to go all the way through the pipe.

companies like rotor rooter have power snakes that cat cutting blades that are meant to cut roots out. you can also rent these machines but not really a job for a novice. It also depends where you are. not that many rental places have these machines

rent a snake or rotor rooter from your hardware store and put it down threw yr pipes

I had a plumber come out and run a " snake" down there. That did the trick.
