Norman Greenbaum penned the original in 1970 and it was later covered by Doctor & The Medics in 1986 and most recently Gareth Gates in 2003. Incidentally they all reached number 1 in the UK singles chart.

I used to love the Dr and the medics version in the 1980's - so corny and naff but I am a child of the 80's and thought it was great! I think the original was done in the 1970's by Norman Greenbaum.
