get a satellite fix. Is there any way to hurry this up, so it gets the GPS position quickly?

The first time you turn on any GPS receiver it needs to acquire the "ephemeris data" (current positions in the sky)from those satellites above your area. This can take up to 15 minutes. During this time it needs a clear view of the sky above. Once it has acquired this data, subsequent acquisitions will be quicker (unless you travel more than about 600 miles from home, when the process will have to be repeated).

The SatNav is actually a quite advanced application for a cellphone. It is unlikely that you will be able to get it to load quickly. However, if you are convinced that it is being unreasonably slow, take it to where you bought it, or just buy a new one :
