Originally, Supermans' 'real' name was Kal-L.
Later, this was spelled Kal-El.
After it was determined that the Golden Age Superman was from Earth-Two, while the Silver Age/Modern version was from Earth-One, the two different spellings were used to tell them apart.

Both versions were named Clark Kent by their adoptive parents.
