I live in a small town and love country music and cowboys. haha I am an avid reader, and have been looking for some books to read about "country wome" or cowgirls. I don't like romance books, but do like drama, chick lit, etc. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it. Thank you and again, sorry for posting this in the wrong category, but I didn't get any good answers in the book category.

Try some of the books from the 'mystery' shelves ... I can't think of any particular books, but I know that there are many books about 'sleuths' in Texas and Arizona, and also some about women in the 'deep south' ... so I'm sure that if you just go to a good 'big' bookstore and ask the clerk to show you some books about 'country women' or 'cowgirls' in the mystery department, you'll be 'happily surprised' and have lots of great 'summer reading' ahead of you.

I'm reading a great book right now, "Book Lust", by Nancy Pearl who is a Seattle librarian who wrote 175 lists of books that will help you find the right read for "any mood, moment and reason". Under the section Montana: In Big Sky Country there's one titled "Homestead" that might be just your style. It's a memoir by Annick Smith of her experiences with homesteading in the Blackfoot Valley on 163 acres in the 1960's .

I've seen a few libraries that have a "westerns" section - books about cowboys/cowgirls, indians, Rangers (Texas state police department), etc. Check if your library has a special section for that. I work at a local library near my house.

Cowboys Don't Cry - Marilyn Halvorson

Actually, anything by Marilyn Halvorson is good, cause she lives in a small town, and writes all about cowboys and cowgirls and living on a farm.
