i just bought a dvb - t tuner for my laptop, ive just installed it an was excited about being able to watch and record tv on here, but when i scan for the channels nothing comes up. Is it because the signal isnt strong enough? if so what the hell can i do to make it work?? its really frustrating! grrr!

It's the aerial, these small aerials that come with the card are simpl useless unless you are in a strong signal area. They really should warn you about this when you are going to buy them. I have one on the home computer but had to install a loft aerial to get a good signal. Do you know anyone with a decent set top aerial you could borrow to try it out. Sorry but that's the best I can suggest.

I have one of these. I get good results 16 km away from a 2,000 watt transmitter, but only because I have an outside aerial (atop a 14 storey tower block). With analogue TV as the signal weakens the picture gradually gets snowier until no longer watchable. With digital there is a sudden point at which the signal is too weak to be usable. This is called the edge of the cliff effect. Even with a good outdoor aerial you may not get all Freeview channels because until the analogue is switched off, some freeview channel groups are being transmitted out- of -band and need a wideband aerial to receive them. Also digital is not on full power yet until analogue is switched off. Here is a link to help you.

Hope this helps.

It depends if you are using a media box like a cable box or Direct TV receiver. if you are using a box between the two you will have to tune in using the Direct TV receiver, if you have a cable box, disconnect it and run the coax cabling directly into the laptop.

So, did you hook up your cable or antenna to the card?
