I have tried all the settings, air fluff, permanent press, etc, and the dryer will not start. I unplugged it, pressed the start button at different times and settings and still nothing. I am guessing it needs a new timer. Any other options?

(edited) Yes, I have reached in and turned the drum by hand. I was wondering about the motor, but the buzzing is not like the sound of a motor spinning (broken belt, etc.) it is more like a motor locked up. But why would the unit do the without even pressing the start button? Just turning the timer anywhere but in the "off" position causes the noise.

Hmm, Royphil3, you have some valid points. You have me wondering if it is something in the motor start "cycle"(I can't think of a better word) that is locked in...

Usually when timers go bad, only certain spots or cycles are effected. I would suspect the motor or capacitor that starts it.

You could use a voltage tester to see if the wires to the motor are getting voltage when they're supposed to (timer set, start button pressed). If not... it's the timer... start button or relay could be bad... If the motor's getting power when it should and isn't working... it's bad...

EDIT: First poster had a good point... Motor could be turning and the belt is broken...

ANOTHER EDIT: I'm wondering if the start button or relay isn't stuck as if the start button were being continuously depressed. I don't think the dryer would start under such conditions and might act in such a manner. A bad timer would probably just cause a circuit not to close when it's supposed to and wouldn't explain something going on when nothing should be happening.

Hi No Problem, This should fix it. Go to your dryer turn the dial on. Open the dryer door and push the door switch with one hand and turn the drum clockwise nice and swift. It should start running. Stop it and try it again a few times. After 3 successfull runs close the door and turn it on. This should fix it. Good luck. pduff39@yahoo.com

Check to see if the drum turns (by hand). It could be a tied up motor or a broken belt and the humming is the motor turning by itself.
