real.
This question is asked at least once a week in this category (and I suspect that it is asked in other categories).
There are lots of sites that explain very clearly why the hoax theory is crap.
The best argument is that the Soviets would have certainly cried foul if they had had any inkling that the lunar landing could have been faked (after all, they were well ahead of us in space exploration until then).
They have landed an unmanned spaceship which carried a French-made retro-reflector (Lunakhod 2). Appolo missions (11, 14 and 15) also left retro-reflectors.
Astronomers have been flashing laser lights at these retro-reflectors to measure (very accurately, I might add) the distance to the Moon.
These retro-reflectors are used by astronomers around the world (even in countries where they don't like us) and they find them exactly where they were left (except for the one left by Lunakhod 1 which has not been detected since 1971).

I don't think they are real. I believe maybe they reached the moon since but I reckon the films etc were a political con. The Americans needed to beat the Russians at the time.
Many experts have cast doubt on this because of the shadows and lighting and the flag blowing. Some people think this was all filmed in a remote desert area somewhere.

An example that appears to be faked is the footage of Earth taken from Apollo 11 when it was, allegedly, 130,000 miles away. The astronauts darken the inside of Apollo 11 by switching the lights off and blocking sun-light from coming in the other windows. The earth was then shot from further back in the craft to make it look as if the earth was surrounded by a sea of black, rather than the window frame. The time on the Apollo log confirms that they would only have been a few hundred miles from Earth. When the lights come back on, it is clear that the Earth is directly beneath them as the bright blue light of Earth fills the window.
Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcHNwUf-5J0 It's about 9 mins long so stick with it.
The Russians could easily have been paid by the U.S. or had some sanctions lifted in order to keep them quiet.

I think it's a con. I've already seen that video at youtube.com and there were a lot of doubtful scenes. The first was why the flag waved where there is too little gravity there. The second one was why there weren't stars on their backdraft. A particular website investigating the video even said it only took place in Area 51. I think it's somewhere in Nevada (pls. correct me if I'm wrong). It has been believed to be faked because the US and Russia had this so called "competition" on which of them is more successful in exploring the outer space or whatsoever you wanna call that which US tried everything just to be more superior than Russia. But I really do hope it isn't a con coz they would just fool the world thinking that Neil Armstrong and his crew were the first men to step on the moon. Luckily, I'm still in the process of investigating other facts whether it could change my belief or stick to it. Hope it helps on you :)

Visit http://www.clavius.org for a very thorough discussion of the moon landings. The information there is probably the most comprehensive available in terms of showing that the landings were not hoaxes.

We really went to the Moon. The problem is, the people behind all the fake landing conspiracy theories are - let's just say - a little weak in their understanding of basic science.
Most of their comments are based on flawed analysis of small items that result from principles that do not understand, or choose to ignore just to draw attention to themselves, since they have no talent or noble achievements to make themselves feel any self worth.

They've had trouble getting the space shuttle into orbit and back but nearly 40 years ago they managed to land men on the moon and get back safely several times. Amazing how technology has declined in the last 40 years isn't it.

I remember the moon landing. I think that men did walk on the moon, but I can not be sure as I wasn't there. I also believe the halocaust happened, but I know several people who say it never happened. I think people will believe what they want to.

Real ,fergoodness sake! You have to be a fully paid up member of the foil-hat brigade to think otherwise!
For a step by step rebuttal of all the stupid accusations of fakery, check out Dr Phil Plaits 'Bad astronomy' web site.

The biggest argument is that you can do science with the data brought back. Every astronomer and scientist in the world, including me, would have to be in on it!

JUST THINK FOR A MOMENT. AT THE TIME OF THE FIRST MOON LANDING THE SOVIET UNION HAD EVERY
REASON TO TELL THE WORLD LONG AND LOUD IF THE LANDING HAD NOT HAPPENED. THEY , THE SOVIET UNION ,HAD THE TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCE TO BE SURE AND THEY DID NOTHING BUT OFFER THEIR CONGRATULATIONS. I AM CERTAIN THAT SOMEWHERE THERE MAY STILL BE 'FLAT EARTHERS' BUT HEY , GROW UP AND SMELL THE DAISIES.
