My boyfriend goes to a tavern every afternoon. He goes 3 days a wk. to play cards. The other 4 days, he just goes (for 2-4 hrs.)
there to socialize, but does not always drink, he may sometimes have 7-up. He'll play machines, cribbage or just yak. He is retired, can afford it & has no interest in other avenues. But it is everyday without exception, and he wants to go alone. It kind of a "good ole boys" thing. Should this be acceptable?

It sounds like it is affecting your relationship with him, so I think there is a problem. At the very least, you need to confront him about his behavior and see how open he is to change. You will learn a great deal about him, and the status of your relationship simply by asking the question.

Sometimes we have to accept boyfriends or husbands as they are. Maybe if you develop interests of your own he will join you. If not, then at least you have something to do instead of obsessing about what he does. It does sound like its a habit that he enjoys. Think about his other behaviors, especially towards you,and if you like them try to concentrate on that Are you retired too? If not, you both have different hours of the day to deal with. Think about that. Good luck!

Why not? It's his retirement; he can spend it how he wants to.

Men need time. Every day before retirement he had the "out" of working. It gave him time away from loved ones, a space for himself. The pub may have taken over the place of work. A space and a time out for himself.

I wouldn't worry about it. Boys, after all, will be boys.

Sure it should. You say he is retired, so he is just probably trying to fill that void in his life. If he were still working, you couldn't go to work with him, so therefore, he would have an instant 8 hours away. Give him a break. You know where he is and what he is doing. It really could be worse.

Well, After retirement you get bored sitting around the house. He just needs something to do. Maybe you could come up with other things to do so that he won't haft to sit around and be bored.
