You need to choose what you want to commit to. That's the thing about being in every extra curricular activity. What really successful students do is pick something that they want to devote to, a few other minimal activity clubs or something like that. If you want to be in another play with this director, you won't quit, but the choice is yours. You do have to make one.

First of all, 9:00am - 10:00pm is really unreasonable. I would take my homework to rehearsals and explain to the teacher in charge that from now until showtime you will join practice when you are finished with your homework. Of course you can make every effort to get your work done before rehearsal, but if your need to study then that should be your priority. You most likely know your music and I'll bet your conductor wants the fullest sound possible and would not want to lose you and therefore would permit you to study. 13 hour rehearsals for minors is against every law imaginable... this guy/gal is a school orchestra teacher, not the conductor at the philharmonic!

What you are facing is considered rational self interest. The choice that one has to make that will give them the most satisfaction. The best thing to do is know that your grades come first because no one can take that away from you. However weigh out the pros and cons of this play and band. Would you like to continue in the band when you go to college or to do this play and major in mass communications in college. We live in a society today where soccer moms are trying to keep their kids active in everything under the sun. I would choose one or the other and keep my grades up. Good luck!

I believe that this is an opportunity for you to show yourself that you can fulfill your commitments by managing yourself and your activities. Don't quit, but also don't allow your grades to suffer. Bring your homework with you to practice, you are not "on" the entire time and can use some of the downtime to catch up w/ studying or homework. Also use your lunch time for work not for social - it is only two more weeks, you can live w/o the social life for that long. Amaze yourself with what you can accomplish if you put your mind to it.

Quit. grades are really important. Its not worth it. I will say that if it is something you really want to do, you're going to have to really commit to grades and work on grades as much as possible with you're schedule. you could go either way but it would be easier to quit
