I have to attractive humming bird feeders on my Patio. They are hanging underneath the Patio roof. I love watching them. Yesterday, I had a very tiny Baby one. It was beautiful. I also prepare my own hummingbird syrup.

I make it out of 2 qrts sugar towards 4 qrts water and cook it off to disolve the sugar.

Red, yellows, and purples. In your neck of the woods, I'd plant some hardy salvias and monarda. Both should be hardy enough to grow as perennials there. For annuals, go with zinnias, petunias, nicosiana, and the less hardy salvias. You might also want to plant some morning glories, they really like those both for the flowers and for cover. I had great success with those in Central Nevada, which is pretty close in climate to where you are.

All good answers. You might also plant butterfly bushes. Mine flower for about 6 months. And plant any other flowers that have a trumpet shape. Also star jasmine. Their water should be 1 part sugar to 4 parts water. You might also put a mister in a tree. They like to fly through them to take their baths. Enjoy!

Bright colors attract hummingbirds. Thats why most feeders are red and yellow. You could buy a feeder to attract more birds. I have sunflower feeders for larger birds. Also have a thistle seed bag for Finches and a small seed feeder for sparrows and other birds. A birdbath also helps attract birds.

hummingbirds like red... plant more red flowers. In my area, they like trumpet vines and petunias. I also had a (purple) may night salvia that they LOVED! Not sure if you can grow these in your area, though.

Find red flowers that are tolerant/indigenous to your area and grow them. Should help.

You might try Brugmansia (Angel's Trumpet). Also there is trumpet vine but the is really agressive. They are also attracted to cannas, verbena or red flowers.
