To answer your question :"Was there ever a threat serious enough for America to go to war?" I think 9/11/01 woke us up to the fact that there are people who want to kill Americans and hurt us in whatever way they can. The best way I can answer who was really behind 911 would be to say people who hate our country. Sorry I cannot do better on that one but you ask some very good questions and it is on my heart to share at least a couple of my thoughts with you on this.

President Bush vowed that nations that sponsored terrorism would not get away with it. And as you can see with all the violence in Iraq there are plenty of terrorists there. I would rather fight the terrorists in Iraq than fight them here on American soil.
The Iraq government must show progress. I do question whether what we are now doing in Iraq is worth the lives of our best military men and women.
I think that this situation in Iraq is horrible and there are no easy answers to it.

911 was caused by radical Islamic fundamentalists. The reason we are in Iraq is for three reasons:

1. Iraq was a known supporter of terrorism and allowed training to be conducted there.
2. Iraq was strongly suspected of having weapons of mass destruction. Most of which have been found but not made public for security reasons.
3. Saddam Hussein was very close to possessing nuclear weapons from the international market run by a Pakistani professor.

Now the liberals want to bring the troops home along with the terrorists close behind. If we are not fighting them in Iraq and elsewhere they will return with 911 tactics.

Gilbert, Now democrats and liberlas as yourself cry foul at this war in iraq, but the Liberal democrats in congress know exactly why were in this war, they declared and affirmed the same thing President Bush and Tony Blair declared before the war started in may of 2003. I dont want to ruin there quoutes, lets let these flip floppers speak for themselves.

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons." - Sen. Hillary Clinton 2002 (press confference in new york)

We have solid reporting of senior-level contacts between Iraq and al-Qaida going back a decade. - George Tenet 2002

I want to be real clear about the connection with terrorists. I've seen a lot of evidence on this. There are extensive contacts between Saddam Hussein's government and al Qaeda and other terrorist groups. I never could reach the conclusion that [Saddam] was part of September 11. Don't get me wrong about that. But there was so much smoke there that it made me worry. And you know, some people say with a great facility, al Qaeda and Saddam could never get together. He is secular and they're theological. But there's something that tied them together. It's their hatred of us. - Sen. Joe Lieberman 2003

Not to mention that in 1998 the CIA, NSA and The State Department all drew up plans with Clintons support for a "regime change in iraq". this is all old news, its was called the Iraq Liberation act, the idea of regime change was supported just as ferverently by clinton as it was by Bush, it was simply adopted into Bush foreign policy. once again, Just another proof that we cannot trust liberals, because we neevr know where they stand.

You are confusing two seperate issues. The war in Afghanistan was about 911.

Iraq was about a madman who was hell-bent on finding a way to get back at the US, who had the backing and total control of one of the wealthiest nations on earth, and our ability to stop the next 911 before it ever happened.

Hussein is now dead, and thats the reason we went there. Mission accomplished. (I don't think we should rebuilding that country, but the idiots in our government disagree).

Yep, Iraq has NOTHING to do with terrorist... None what so ever!!! They are the only middle eastern country ran by an evil dictator who was terrorist free.... They posed no harm to the world and didn't need dealt with. And there were no WMD's because someone like Saddam would never have them, he was to good of a guy right? He was targeted by Bush sr., Clinton and Bush jr. not to mention the U.N., French, German etc. Yep it was a huge conspiracy to get Saddam and take over his Crappy little dust bowl of a country. And it wasn't terrorists that flew those planes in to the towers and pentagon.. It was Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck...... PLEASE whatever!!!! *shakes head*

I'm not really sure when it happened, but most of the people I work around seem to thing that Saddam hijacked and crashed each and every plane on 9/11.
I'm beginning to suspect where the "intelligence" came from to invade Iraq, but I shall keep it to my self for now.
Note to everybody-DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!
You will become very skeptical of our media.

In my opinion just a piece of the big puzzle. Some of the bad guys had roots & ties there. It wasn't like the Iraq government said bomb the US. There are several sections of ruling entities over there. But they do believe in suicide bombing. Taking out innocent civilians as did the terrorists who died on board airplanes for the cause during the September 11 attacks. $ yrs in Iraq? Well, their gov't is so outta whack they can't take care of themselves without being a threat to other even more volatile nations on their borders.

The Saudis were responsible for 9/11, but the Bush family does too many financial dealings with them. We are in Iraq for oil and money. Iraq wasn't a threat to us. After all, if they were, why was the U.S. supplying them with weapons during their battle with Iran? We do whatever makes us a profit. Plain and simple!!!
