When I was a little girl, I learned the rhyme as
Humpy dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty dumpty had a great fall,
all the kings horses and all the kings men couldnt put Humpty together again,
why? because he was an egg.

So maybe it did start off as a riddle and the end bit got knocked off as the generations went by.

Why have I been given the thumbs down because I said what I learned when I was a little girl?? some people are far to handy with those thumbs.
