Here is a briefing on the raid. On october 16,1859 Brown and 21 men launched an attack on the Ferderal Arsenal at Harpers Ferry,and successfully captured it. Next day they were surrounded by the Virginia milita. The US Marines under command of Colonel Robert E. Lee captured Brown and his comrades. Ten of Browns men were killed, 7 including Brown were captured and hung. and 5 escaped.
