I went to the doctor last week who put me on 10 days of Keflex for whatever bacterial infection I had to heal up (because she believed that the swollen lymph nodes in my groin were due to that -- most likely from shaving.) It has been one week and they are no longer painful, but still swollen. I have never had a problem with this before so I am scared that something is wrong. How long does it take for swollen lymph nodes to go down, usually? And is it likely that I have something else?

FYI -- I had sex six months ago with a man who said he's clean, we wore a condom almost the entire time. Should I be worried about HIV as well?

I am getting tested ASAP.

I just wanted to know everyone's experience with this...

Unless you broke the skin while shaving and some form of virus or bacteria got in, it is unlikely that an infection would result from shaving. Lymph nodes can swell as a natural defense against an infection, but there are other causes for swollen lymph nodes, too. Some STD's can produce swollen lymph nodes, such as syphilis, which can be treated effectively with penicillin. Depending on the severity of the infection, the time for lymph nodes to return to normal size will vary. Several years ago, I had an upper respiratory infection with a bad sore throat, but it wasn't strep. When I felt better, I noticed a swollen area in my neck. After numerous tests involving my thyroid, an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor did a throat scope and diagnosed me with a swollen lymph nodes. He said sometimes a lymph node will "not get the memo" that you are better and will remain swollen. Nothing can be done for it, though. About 2 weeks later, I came down with strep throat and had plenty of swollen lymph nodes. When I felt better, the lump in my throat was gone. Any time you have unprotected sex there is a risk of STDs. Being tested for HIV wouldn't be a bad idea, just to be sure.

Swollen lymph nodes can take a long time to do down. When I had mono, my lymph nodes didn't return to normal size for about 2 months after my symptoms went away. If you are feeling ok, I wouldn't worry too much but you shouldn't have unprotected sex with strangers - anyone who has unprotected sex should be tested for HIV/AIDS.

Lymph nodes can take couple of weeks to go back down, probably a cold virus, check with Dr. if no improvement, try moist warm heat on the swollen area.

I certainly have had a lymph node close to to my armpit for roughly 12 years now. that's breast tissue and it is going and is derived with hormonal differences. I certainly have continuously monitored it and that i'm continuously advised that's danger unfastened. you could verify with the dr. to confirm. it must be no longer something yet you won't be able to easily be thinking in spite of if that's or isn't. reliable success!
