so, I just took the next one in the pack which was the first inactive pill. What should I do now? Is this going to mess up my cycle or make the pill ineffective?

If it's the "inactive pill" don't worry about it at all! Those pills are actually unnecessary, but are reminders for YOU since you are taking pills daily. They do not contain any hormones which is why you bleed. By not bringing more hormones into your body, the build up of blood finally releases itself, which is your period. So don't worry if it was that.

Otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much anyways. Just carry on the best you can with your pills. If you've been taking them regularly and fairly accurately, you should be fine! :)

Oh...and I have read before that if you are off by a day, you may want to use condoms for the next week until your body builds up that 100% no-baby hormonal stage again. I'm not sure how much truth is behind that, but I think it's good to know and much better to be safe than sorry! :)

You should not have taken the inactive pill - but taken an active one from a new pack and then started the inactive ones the day after that. A spare pack is always useful for those pills that get lost - and perhaps next time try to stay away from the sink - or place the pill by the sink before filling your glass up. But I wouldnt be worried if I were you about that one lost active pill - but if you are sexually active - take extra precautions such as a condom for the next 7 days to keep your mind at ease. In fact any time you arent sure - definately use extra precautions for 7days - its better than a pregnancy if you dont want one.

Easily happens.....! I am guessing you were over the sink because you were drinking water with it, so it's an easy mistake!
I would not worry about it....in future, I would take a spare pack you have and take one from that (and throw that away as it will be 1 pill short). Although, this is a bit of a waste, so it's probably not worth it.
I wouldn't worry too much, it probably doesn't affect your cylcle too much, but more of a problem would be the effectiveness of the Pill - so if you have any doubt I would see a Dr just to be sure.

no, if it was the last pill of your pack...the lever of hormones in the last pills is pretty low and your cycle will not be messed up, if you took your pills as you should before that there is no chances of pregnancy, you will probably have you periods a day or so earlier. The danger of missing pills if when you forget 1-2 pills in the middle of your cycle...then the pill becomes infective and you need to use condoms for birth control.
But this time there is no problem...take it from a nurse practitioner...

The packet should tell you which ones are the effective ones and which ones are sugar pillls. If it's one of the placebo sugar pills then you don't have to worry about it, you could have a tic tac instead, for all the effect it's going to have. The sugar pills are just to keep you in the habit of taking a pill at the same time every day. I usually just don't bother with them. Carry on as usual, and take your next pill at your usual time tomorrow.
