What ever laptop you buy, make sure it has one heck of a video card. Those Sims games are getting quite demanding -- even with the option for lower resolution settings.

Laptops aren't the best option to play games on. They overheat much more easily than desktops where games are concerned because they use a lot of processing power, which creates heat, which slowly erodes at a computer's lifespan in a confined, heat-prone box like a laptop.

Nonetheless, it can be done, and is. Laptops have their uses - portability, especially. Depending on her age and lifestyle, a laptop might be the best choice overall, but you should warn her about the heat issue if you do buy her one. A coolpad or similar device will help to minimize the effects of heat.

Your best bet may be to call Dell or whatever manufacturer you're looking at and ask them for reasonable specs based on what she wants to do with the laptop. The games she recieved will have "minimum and recommended requirements" listed on the boxes and in the manuals. Look at them. You can also find them online if you don't want her to know what you're looking for. Try to meet the recommended requirements.

Generally, get the most memory (RAM) you can afford. CPU/Processor speed is not as important to most people. Hard drive space may be important - 40gigs at /least/, but the bigger, the better.

Budget laptops and games do not mix well - you'll want midline, at least, somewhere in the $1500-$2000 range. If this is outside your budget, a desktop that will perform the same (better, even) will be in the $1000 range - and will likely last longer.

If you give your daughter a laptop for use at home, you are also giving her back and neck pains and maybe Carpal Tunnel syndrome (wrist pain) in the future. Laptop has poor ergonomics and not good for extended use, that is why there is a desktop.

NOW, if she insists, you insist in return that the laptop should rest atop a tel directory or books so that the top of the screen is at eye level. Connect a full sized keyboard that should be on the computer table's tray. Use a large mouse that should also be at keyboard level.
