Total dummy question. I just bought a house last year and moved in during winter so the sprinkler must have been turned off. now that it's almost summer i'd like to turn the sprinkler back on. i saw a programmer in the garage and turned that on, but where's the faucet? where would it usually be?

thanks

If you have a timer for your sprinklers, you have a sprinkler "system". Typically there will be a tee on your water main with a valve on it. (There should be 2 valves: 1 shuts off the water supply to your entire house the other isolates just the sprinklers) Since you have a timer, there will be solenoids on top of a few pipes stubbing up from the ground. A solenoid is usually D-cell battery shaped and sized, black or gray, and controls bulky valves on-top of a pipe or pipes that are stubbed up out of the ground, usually in a flower bed. (Difficult to describe) Depending on your lawn size, there will be 2 or 3 in tandem. The wire from your timer connects to those solenoids/valves and tells them when to open and thus, sprinkle. If the wire leaving your timer is visible, you could follow it directly to the system. You may have a seperate system in your backyard run from the same timer. Also, if the water is shut-off it could be for a reason. Hopefully it's not broken pipes. You'll know though after the sprinklers run. Good luck and congrats on your home!

If you cannot find a shut-off valve for the sprinklers inside the house, look outside for a plastic box with the lid level with the ground. Open it and you may find the supply valve and any zone valves for the system.

Usually the water service company needs to come to your house and turn the water on. The "faucet" is located near the water meter.

if its not in the garage then just look around the outside walls of your house. if you cant find it then go in the basement and look for the pipe leading outside .
i had a house like you bought in the winter and the tap was hidden outside under the siding . i only found that by chance.
