ok, the office was funny, a good peice of observational sitcom, but merchant had a lot to do with.
it just seems to me that he gets away with saying things that are just offensive, but cos he says it with a cheeky smile, he gets away with it, and people think he's being ironic.
having listened to some podcasts, i think he has quite a nasty streak, the podcasts are basically just him bullying karl.
what triggered this was seeing him being offered to join spinal tap, i dont know haow that connection came about, how can he be on the same level as spinal tap?
it just annoys me the way he has to get his mug all over everything, when, although david brent was a good character, ricky gervais just isnt very funny, and if he were anyone else doing the kind of jokes he does in some stand up place, he would be booed off.
end of rant.

I cant stand the bloke, He's so full of himself thinks he's the best around. What he did for his Comic relief thing i thought was sick. Only he can think he is too special to go out to these places!! He's a waste of space.

Personally I never thought he was ever funny so I never watched "the office". An ordinary bloke playing an ordinary bloke to my mind is:- well ordinary. As for the rest of his act/acting it is just more of the same an ordinary bloke. if I wanted to watch ordinary blokes I would look out of the window. This might stir things up a bit. I feel the same about Paul Whitehouse. He's very clever but, to me that makes him no funnier than Steven Hawking. Both clever in their way but both unfunny!!!

In my opinion, the man rates zero for humour and personality!

Me. I thought I was alone. Never liked him, he's so up himself. I was told I had no sense of humour cos I don't find him funny
