My son is performing 7 brides for 7 brothers tonight. I know the tradition is for women to receive roses on opening night, anyone know what I could get him?

Thanks

Take him out to dinner afterward.

I think there have been some great suggestions. I agree that you don't have to invite all his friends but maybe one or two of his closest friends and either have a sleep over in the back yard. Boys love that! With hot dogs, chips and drinks. Make a birthday cake and give the two boys a treat bag with candy. Let the kids eat popcorn and stay up late. If you think that a backyard sleepover is too scary for him, try to let him make a tent in the house and they can sleep in the living room. In the morning you can take the kids to a movie, or you can just do some fun games and give dollar store prizes to the winners. Have family and friends know that you don't have the money to plan a big party like you are used to doing and hopefully they will send over their gifts for him anyway.

I don't know why anyone would assume this is a school production. Professional productions often have children in the ensemble... Whatever the case, it's sweet to want to get your son a gift. Flowers are fine for either sex, but if you prefer to do something different and would like to keep in theme with the show you could get him a lasso, a pair of cowboy boots, a cowboy hat, etc. You could also snap a photo of him on stage (action shot, posed, whatever) and frame it along with the program. You could start this as a tradition for other productions to come :-) If it's something you do yourself, perhaps the matte could be used for cast autographs later... Tell him BREAK A LEG!!!

Flowers are the traditional gift for men & women, boys & girls...however, if you think that your son would find something else more meaningful - why not get him something that relates to the play/his part...or to acting in general...the link below is excellent but will take time & you need your gift tonight. Use it for the future :) For tonight consider a small engraved key chain or mug with your son's name, the name of the play and the opening night date.

Well, i saw that everyone seems to suggesting a watch or something.
i think flowers would be fine. But if you want to go down the watch or jewlery route I have an idea. My acting director has a pocket watch with one of his lines engraved on the inside. He always brings the pocket watch to the opening night of shows

Roses for a boy would be nice as well. Or you could get him a watch, or bracelet, or something of that sort and wrap it in a small box and present it to him.

Huh? At 10 I really don't think this is even necessary. I assume this is a little school production and frankly, I don't think that calls for roses or anything else. What do you do when he graduates from high school? Buy him a Mercedes? Graduates from college? A house? Come on, this is a 10 year-old kid in a school production.
