Somebody has to raise the money to pay for the cost of bringing the media into the home. If you look around, those technologies you get without the Cable Co, are also tied to corporations that have to pay the bills.

There are only two ways to get your media. Radio frequency transmitters, or "hardwired" transmission. Someone has to pay for the transmitters. In the hardwired mode you have the high expense of stringing cables (copper wire or fiber optic).

then someone has to make the programing to be transmitted.

All of this costs money. Short of some billionaire philanthopist picking up the tab, someone has to pay it, and that would be us.

You don't need cable companies. Before cable, there were roof-top antennas. Before that there were rabbit ears. You can opt for satellite dish or opt for no TV. In the US we have choices...and competition. Governments regulate cable TV companies. If the system seems screwed up to you, look to the governments who got it that way.
