Yup! Sometimes they have to experience things for themselves. I know this guy who wont quit drugs. I can't help him. I tried and until he hits bottom he wont learn. I did it in my younger days and learned from it. All you can do is be there for them if they need to talk about it. :0)

I am the type who looks after the well being of others before my own. It hurts more looking in from the outside and not being able to do anything about it. Sometimes the best support is just being the listening ear or shoulder to cry on. You are a great guy! You are the Y! answers mighty protector!

Funny I see this question. I just finished sending an email to a friend not coping very well with the birth of her second child. I have offered to help. babysit, wash /iron, but, she won't accept. All I can do is listen to her woes and try and be a good friend.
This is a time that unfortunately she may have to go it alone. Until routine sets in and she manages to get some sleep.

That's because you are a really great guy!
Your love, support and concern are more than enough and an awful lot more than most people will give.
I've been through enough garbage-- emotionally and physically- to know this for a fact.
Just be there for your friend and make sure they know you will always be there.

This is something I do on a daily basis. I promised 12 years ago, that from that point, the rest of my life would be spent in service to my fellow man.
Once in awhile I fail somewhat but for the most part I have lived this way.

definitely there are more than one of my friends that o would love to be able to reach out and help and it tears me apart that there isn't a lot that I can do for them other than just let them know I am here for them.
However with a friend that support and concern can make all the difference in the world....

That is so hard to do speaking as a man, we just want to jump in and fix things. I have a lot of trouble with these things, but sometimes it's the way it has to be.

Definitely. That's what true friendship is all about. It's really tough to watch a loved one go through tough times, when we can do very little about it. But just being there, helps more than we realize.

Many times, but some things have to be done alone. Knowing that doesn't make it any easier though, you still want to help.

Yes I do, but I usually try not to let them go through it alone because she is usually suicidal at those times. Even she will admit I need to worry more about myself.
