I'm positive that they're on an island.
As for Jacob...there was a flash that briefly showed his face, but I couldn't quite make out the detail. I think he is a person that is "special," like walt...yknow, psychic powers and stuff...the true leader of the others.

I believe they are on an island, one that has some type of electromagnetic field surrounding it - remember, the chick from the helicopter said at first when they flew over, the Island wasn't there. Then when she was flying from the boat, her instruments went crazy. I believe Jacob was a real person at first, but what happened last night, well I'm not sure if there's a Jacob "entity" (like a poltergeist manifesting) who's causing a lot of the mysterious noises and things on the Island (think about Ben seeing his dead mother, Jack seeing his dead father), or if Ben's long stay on the Island has given him some type of telekinetic powers. But when he shot Locke, I just "lost" it. I knew someone was supposed to get killed - but LOCKE!?!?!?! OMG!

After last night I'm wondering if Jacob and the smoke monster are some sort of rogue super computer, maybe military.

I'm at the point of believing what Locke's dad said: They are dead and the island is hell! If this is true then Jacob could be the devil!

I think they are on an island.
I think Jacob may be a ghost or someone on another plane of existence.
Notice how, without the hair, he looks like Locke?

The fact that they want you to guess and guess and guess tells you that they have hidden it so well, nothing will reveal it at this point. The show has set an end date. 3 more seasons on contract, 16 episodes per season, aired with no interruptions. Yes, they're trying to make a religion of LOST.
