My boyfriend is not sure about the traffic violation "summons" he got. It says "summons" and has a date and the traffic violation about a stop sign. Is the summons for the trial? Is there a difference between a summons and a notice to trial? What happens when he gets to the court for the summons?
thanks

Summons is just that, a summons to court. Usually these are not issued unless he either has many traffic violations or, more likely, he was caught by one of those "red light" cameras. Was this issued by police or sent in the mail? And was it the first thing he recieved or did he toss out a ticket beforehand?

It will be like a regular trial, evidence for and against him running this stop, and judged accordingly.

Summons is an order of the court for a person to appear for trial as provided for under the applicable provisions of the Rules of Court. The person ordered to appear must comply or else he will be declared in contempt of court.
