Well, I see that this question has certainly attracted some ignorant folks.

"...but the fact remains that they are a group of people who have misunderstood the true value of life."
----And just how have they done this? The "true value of life" is a matter of opinion. What you believe to be the "true value of life" isn't a matter of fact. It is, as I said, an OPINION. Nudists understand the "value of life" perfectly since, I reapeat once again, it is a matter of opinion.

"I have never heard of any nudist having achieved any thing significant merely by being a nudist ."
----So, should everyone give you a ring-a-ding-ding to find out whether or not anyone has made achievements? Just because you haven't heard of something doesn't necessarily mean that something hasn't happened. Furthermore, why would a nudist try to achieve anything "merely by being a nudist"? Do homosexuals try to achieve "merely by being homosexual"? Nudism isn't for the purpose of achievement.
Go read a book.

Nudism originated in 20th century Germany as a way of protesting against strict Victorian rules. German immigrant, Kurt Barthel, organized a picnic in New York in 1929, which brought the nudist movement in the United States. For all you dopes who contend that nudism is for the purposes of attention and sexual gratification: The practice of nudism is purposely very much NONEROTIC and NONSEXUAL. It's for personal comfort and a stronger sense of freedom. And there is the belief that nudism helps with self-esteem, relaxation, overall well-being, and so on.

Sheeesh!! I can't believe that this question has attracted a lot of very childish and stupid people - Nancy D has already been reported.

Many naturists and nudists do believe in supernatural beings, with the Christian nudists believing that God created us naked and who are we to criticise or shame what he created?

Other nudists do believe that it is a valid way of life and is healthy, especially because clothes trap a lot of sweat and bacteria as well as mites.

Others mistakenly believe that it can spice up their sex lives, and some couples in bad marriages try to give it a go with disastrous results (I've seen it happen before myself).

Nudism and naturism is not about 'flashing' or sex. In fact, you will find more sexual curiousity with wearing skimpy and titillating clothes than if a person is fully naked.

Some also believe in the individual's freedom to go nude wherever they want and it should be a basic human right, as long as you are not doing it for sexual reasons.

That's about all I can say on the matter.

Nudist enjoy being free from cloth as a matter of enjoying nature and the physical feeling of the earths forces around the body its a sense of freedom that is not obtainable while being clothed.
Nudism is not about sexual perversion its is about being in touch sensually with the the earth, notice the word sensual as in your senses. The bodies senses are more enhanced while being naked outdoors
Everyone should try being nude either alone or with others.

Social nudism is not about sex .The U.S. has a hang up on the natural body and being the way we were born.

Europe on the other hand has a enlightened view of nudism
many public places, saunas, swimming areas, public urban parks do not object to the naked human form, One day the backward U.S. will catch up

Every nudist believes in different things, just like every other person on the planet. We come from all nations and races, all religions, all classes and walks of life. We are children, teens, young adults, middle aged, and senior citizens. We are wealthy and poor, successful in our careers or trying to find ourselves. We are artistic and analytical, white collar and blue collar (but we prefer no collars). There is no one belief system that applies to all nudists, aside from the fact that we enjoy living life in the way that God intended for us to be, clothes free.

They probably believe in not restricting themselves with clothes. Most nudists don't run around with sex on their minds any more than clothed people. There is nothing quite like the feeling of having sunshine all your naked body.

Nudists may say many things in their favour, such as personal freedom, freedom of expression, artistic way of looking at things and simply getting sun tanned and so on, but the fact remains that they are a group of people who have misunderstood the true value of life. I have never heard of any nudist having achieved any thing significant merely by being a nudist . As it is prevalent only in the developed world, one should understand that it is one of the demerits of excessive freedom and money.

We believe that it's awesome to be naked in as many appropriate places and situations as possible, whether inside or out, alone or with others. We're comfortable with our bodies and don't care who sees us naked...or whom we see naked either.

That's the bottom line, and really the only common denominator that we share.

Everything else is unique to each individual.

We simply prefer to live without the cultural confines of unnecessary clothing. We are comfortable with our own bodies, and don't believe in the lies that the media portrays as a "perfect" image. We are confident in our relationships and know that nudity does not equal sexuality.

i feel uncomfortable when i see them. once, at the seaside, i walked too far on the beach and got into the nudists area, i can tell you i turned back and i was like "ewwww".
if you wanna get a tan without bathing suit lines you either go to a tanning saloon (the artificial way) or be fortunate to have a place in your yard where no one sees you and you stay in the sun (the natural way). but a bunch of naked people of all ages and of both sexes together, it`s gross. i mean we had hundreds of thousands of years of evolution, we don`t need to stay butt-naked.

Well as far as my knowledge goes nudists use their bodies to express themselves just like a artist uses his brushes to create a painting to express how he is feeling or what he is observing that's the same thing nudists do the just use their bodies
